The Bishop's Forum 2023

Description

The Bishop’s Forum, held at Bishop’s University in Lennoxville, Quebec, provided Scattered with a platform to present our methods to a wider, more diverse audience. Nearly 100 participants, including university students, community leaders, and young professionals, gathered to engage in an in-depth exploration of mindfulness, automatic writing, and the Headspace Method. This event marked our first foray into presenting our techniques at a university level, demonstrating the versatility and impact of our practices across different age groups.

We started the session with an introduction to Scattered, explaining our mission to empower neurodivergent individuals through creative and mindful expression. We then guided participants through a mindfulness meditation, encouraging them to observe their thoughts and emotions without judgment. This exercise created a collective sense of calm and presence, preparing everyone for the automatic writing activity.

During the automatic writing segment, we encouraged participants to let their thoughts flow freely, without worrying about structure or coherence. The results were astonishing. We received poetry submissions in five different languages, showcasing the rich cultural diversity of the group and the universal nature of self-expression. Many participants shared that the activity provided them with a profound sense of emotional release, allowing them to articulate feelings they had been carrying for a long time.

The reflection period was particularly powerful, as participants discussed how the workshop helped them process emotions and feel more connected to themselves. The feedback we received underscored the effectiveness of our methods, with many expressing a desire for more workshops. The Bishop’s Forum proved to be a pivotal moment for Scattered, highlighting the potential of our approach to reach and impact a broader, more diverse audience.
